Carolin Kriegbaum violin/viola-player

"Whether bow or brush - taking part and being present in the flow of movement and colours - colours of sound with the possibility of diversity is always a wonderful experience."

Carolin Kriegbaum is born in Stuttgart. Early on her love for music and painting was spotted. First she learned to play the violin and later the viola. Her passion was chamber music. After winning a federal award at "Jugend musiziert" in the solo grade her musical career became more intensive.
As a teenager student she had lessons at the Academy of Music with Serge Collot (Paris) and was able to start courses of study after school. due to scholarships she she had the possibility to do concert tours through Europe, Asia and USA. She took part in many chamber music and master courses, a.o. Norbert Brainin (Amadeus-quartet, London), Denis Zsigmondy (USA), Thomas Brandis (Berlin) - she had lessons with the violists Serge Collot, Emile Cantor, Paul Doktor and Bruno Giurana.
The meeting with Sergiu Celibidache in the festival orchestra of the music festival of Schleswig- Holstein (1987 and 1988) and his lectures gave her decisive impulses for her further career.
She did her orchestra master diploma at the State Academy of Music in Trossingen and her artistic examination at the State Academy for Music in Karlsruhe.
Carolin Kriegbaum is open to all kinds of music. That´s why she sometimes takes part in cross-over projects of concerts, tours and productions, for example with Jon Lord or Paul Mc Cartney a.o.
Among other things she played in the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Stuttgart and since 1991 she is a member of the Bach-Committee of Stuttgart conducted by Helmuth Rilling at the international Bach Academy Stuttgart.
Beside this she was always painting. Most of her paintings have their origin in music: whether it was the echo of the music after a concert or the memory that she visualized in listening to it again from a recording - the movement of the music always stimulated her to make movement visible with colours.
In 1997 she got the idea, through a visitor of the exhibition, that asked her how the paintings come into being, that she could draw paintings during a concert, for the visible for the audience: " that should work as well with live music!" - three weeks later she could put her plan into action and for the first time was doing live-painting at a concert of the Helios-Trio. This was followed by many more live-painting concerts and performances in many different ways and many kinds of music such as live-painting in a classical concert with orchestra or chamber music, at a free jazz performance, at improvisations...in concert halls, churches, Open-Airs...
In 2011 she is, for the first time, a member of the band of Lex van Somerens tour "like in heaven" as a musician for viola and violin.
